RP7410 crashes when slave core I/O added

I have 2 Rp7410's that are doing the exact same thing so I don't think it is a bad core I/O. I built the systems with 2 cells fully populated and a single core I/O with no errors. when I added the second (slave) core I/O it crashed during boot. There were no erros until I tried to boot. Also, there were no fault lights afterwards. I am completely stumped. I have swaped out every part possible with the same results. The strange part is that the systems are fine until I try to boot.
thanks,
Craig

Re: RP7410 crashes when slave core I/O added

We are talking about core I/O sets. Each set consists of an MP card and LAN card. So you have to add 2 components as a second core I/O.

Can you confirm this?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: RP7410 crashes when slave core I/O added

In other words:

one core I/O set consists of a MP card (not a PCI card) and a LAN card (PCI card).

two core I/O sets are 2 MP cards and 2 PCI cards per server.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: RP7410 crashes when slave core I/O added

yes, I installed the second MP into the top slot and the LAN/SCSI card into 0/1 (bay 0, slot 1). I don't need to attach or change any of the ribbon cables, do I? I also swapped MP's (master and slave positions) with the same results. Works with one installed but not 2

Re: RP7410 crashes when slave core I/O added

There are 2 different types of sets. They must not be mixed in one system.
What type do you have?

Another point is firmware.

Re: RP7410 crashes when slave core I/O added

Hi Craig,

Can you check the MPs SL logs to see if some info being logged there?

Do you see the Master LED of both MPs lit up ( which is not correct )?

Re: RP7410 crashes when slave core I/O added

Hi Craig,

You have tried to swap the MP, but have you tried to swap the LAN Core I/O? The panic is showing I/O system hangs.

My guest, it is either the Lan Core I/O or the I/O Backplane could be defected

Sandy

Re: RP7410 crashes when slave core I/O added

Is this server sharing disks with another? Make sure the SCSI addresses on the bus, whether shared or dedicated, are unique. Also check for improper SCSI termination or none at all.

Re: RP7410 crashes when slave core I/O added

What happens with 2 MP and 1 LAN card?

The second LAN is an option, so it works with only 1 LAN card (part of the core I/O set).

Does it work?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
