RP7410 upgrade

I have a RP7410 with 1 core I/O board and 1 cell board. The cell board has (4) 750 MHz cpu's and is fully loaded with memory - 32 gb (16, 2gb dimms). To get more memory, I've purchased an additional cell board and another 32gb.

My plan was to move 2 cpu's from the existing cell board, and make one partition out of both cell boards. I am running unix b11.11. I have upgraded both boards to current firmware levels.

Either board works fine as a single cell partition, but I have been unable to get a successful reboot after modifying the partition to include both cell boards. The parstatus command shows proper cpu and memory on the cell boards. Here are the commands I used:

parmodify -p 0 -a 0:::
reboot -R

The reboot seems to hang for a long time - 15 minutes or so, and finally the attention light comes on. Here is what my Ccerrlog file says:

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Is it valid to have 2 cell boards and 1 core I/O board? It seems as though the hardware works ok, as the new cell board and memory will work fine by itself. Thanks for the help!

A few things to check:

Hi,
Are the Dip Switches on the NEW cell board the same as the existing Cell Bd
Check switches 1,2 & 3 are the same on both.

Do you have an MP installed in the PRIMARY lower slot (Slot1)?
The Secondary part of the MP (LAN/SCSI Card) should be in IO Bay 1 - slot8

From the MP, do:

MP>CM>cp

Does the machine show that both cells are in the same partition?

Yes, the switches are set the same. Yes, the primary MP is instaled in slot 1, and yes, the LAN/SCSI is in I/O bay 1, slot 8. When I use the parstatus command, it does show both cells in the same partition.

Hi,
I need clarification on something.
Are you saying that the machine DOES actually boot with the new Dual Cell config in a single nPAR, albeit it hangs for 15 minutes or so on the reboot?
I am coming to this conclusion on the basis that you have said in your latest post that you can do a parstatus and see both cells in the SAME partition.
I was originally inder the impression that it would hang for 15mins and NOT actually boot HPUX.

Sorry, I really didn't answer you correctly. No, the system does not reboot after trying to make 1 partition out of the 2 cell boards. I put both cells into 1 partition with parmodify, and I don't get any sort of error message, so I'm assuming they became 1 partition ok. But the reboot never comes back.

log on to the MP, change to CM and run "cp" to see the current config.
Check the fw too, (sysrev command).

OK, Looking at the logs above it looks like the machine is confused by somthing stored in its NVRAM.

Is the Cell that was ORIGINALLY installed in the machine in the SAME slot as it was before, or did you inadvertantly switch it to the other slot when you had both cells on the floor while moving the CPU's etc.

If you are unsure, then try switching the cell boards around anyway.
I think that the machine thinks it has a different Serial Number, Complex ID and SCSI parameters.
