We have a RP8400 with 2 core cells. As per the documentation we can not create 4 hard partitions unless otherwise we have an I/O Expansion cabinet with core I/O is connected. What is this I/O expansion cabinet all about? Is it a separate RP8400 server?. How the connectivity is done between RP8400 and expansion cabinet? Do any of you have any diagrams/images explaining the connection?
Thanks,
Karthik S S

SolutionHere you have the technical presentation white paper for rp8420 http://www.hp.com/products1/servers/rackoptimized/rp8420/infolibrary/rp7420_rp8420_wp_FINAL_020204.pdf
There you will find information about the SEU (Server Expansion Unit). It is similar to the I/O Expansion Cabinet for Superdome. It is connected to the RP84xx through REO cables.
Regards,
Pedro.

Re: RP8400 - 4 Hard partitions
The I/O expansion cabinet for the rp8400, otherwise known as an SEU (Server Expansion Unit). Basically it is an external IO cabinet similar in size to an rp7410, with 2x8 PCI/PCI-X Slots, four internal hdd bays, two internal tape/dvd bays and two core IO(just like the RP8400 with the added bonus of PCI-X). It connects via a bundle of four RIO cables directly to the backplane. Attached is a diagram from the upgrade manual available at:
