p0: has cells 0,1 and 2
p1: has cell 3

p0 boots fine

p1 stops at boot is blocked cell firmware:

# Cell state Activity
- ---------- --------

BOoting p1 from cm> stops at same level.

the error log is empty (was cleared by mistake).

all cell firmware is at the same level.

CM>PE powering off the cabinet and back on - did not help.

Re: RP8400/ boot is blocked cell firmware

Hi,

The cell board goes to BIB state only when you do a RR from MP or shutdown -R -H from OS.

Do a PE off/on and use vfp to monitor the activity of p1. pls check the last activity before it goes to BIB, it will give you the hint about the issue.

Siva.

Re: RP8400/ boot is blocked cell firmware

Hi,

I've experienced something like this before with rp7420. Try to used the PE command to turn off the cabinet, unplug all the power cords and then try to boot up again

Re: RP8400/ boot is blocked cell firmware

Hi,

Is there I/O expansion cabinet/SEU installed?

Can you post following ?

From MP
MP -> CM -> CP
MP -> CM -> PS
MP -> CM -> IO

From BCH menu ( for p0 maybe? )
BCH -> IN -> PR
BCH -> IN -> IO
BCH -> IN -> ME
BCH -> CO -> PD

You may not get BCH of p1 as it looks like the p1 is not getting booted but the cell bootup is complete and waiting to clear BIB.

nPar command
# parstatus -C
# parstatus -I
# parstatus -w

By the way, what's the system firmware version of the server?

Re: RP8400/ boot is blocked cell firmware

The rp8400 cannot use cell 3 as a core cell unless you have the Server Expansion Unit. Do you have an SEU attached?

Re: RP8400/ boot is blocked cell firmware

Hi,

first of all I would consider a firmware update from your version (6.2) to the current (6.4). Arrange this with HP. At this occasion they can a closer look at your cell related problem.

One thing to try:
Go to the MP and reset the partition 1:

MP:CM> rr

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: RP8400/ boot is blocked cell firmware

power cycling system and SEU did it.

I had to disconnect power cables for couple seconds.

thank you all
