I have an rp5450 with a GSP that may be bad. I got an EMS notification saying that the "service processor is not functioning" and the console isn't responding (everything else about the system is running fine). I tried "stty +queryGSP < /dev/GSPdiag1", but that returned "GSP is functional".
My next step is to give "stty +resetGSP < /dev/GSPdiag1" a shot. I understand this to be a relatively safe command, but I have seen the odd report that this can lock up the entire machine.
So, my question to you all would be, what happens if the GSP really truly is bad and this sucker ends up locking up and I have to cycle the power on it? Will the system boot with a bad GSP?
Thanks a lot!
Kris

Re: Rebooting rp5450 with possibly bad GSP
If it waits for your input on the console, you are lost.
The old GSPs don't like, when you e.g. work with a hp and a vt100 terminal at the same time - result is a freeze.
Check the settings with "setboot" from hp-ux, shut down, pull the plugs and boot again.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

SolutionAfter this you may consider to press the GSP reset button manually (it is behind the side door) - but first tell the result of the reset command.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Rebooting rp5450 with possibly bad GSP
Your GSP "simply" seems to hang. In this case a HP-UX reboot would not bring the GSP back but would (very probably) succeed. You need to reset the GSP either with stty or by pressing the button in the back of the machine.
After GSP reset please check firmware of the machine and the GSP and update if necessary!
My 2 cents,
Armin
