Re: Remote Console

Shalom,

K570 may not have a remote console. You may have to use a serial console with that museum piece.

The N4000 is a little more modern and it has a remote console.

Consoles are not part of the OS. There are a little card based computer system with an RJ45 connector. You have to connect a serial console to the box and run through the menu based configuration on the N4000, give it an IP address and connect the network.

Re: Remote Console

Optimus is referring to the Secure Web Console, a general purpose serial-to-webpage adapter. It will connect to any serial port on any computer, network appliance, lots of things...

Thanks to Mr. Google, I was able to drag up this rather nice document tree:

Re: Remote Console

You must copy the words on the modem or console adapter so we can see whether you have a real modem that connects to a telephone, or a web console that connects to a network.

Re: Remote Console

J3591A is the Secure web console.
Here is the link again: http://www.docs.hp.com/en/1049/

The A2991-60016 is officially called a Line Interface Module, also known as telephone protective device. You simply plug one end into the telephone line and the other goes into the modem port on the K570. You need to decide how you are going to use the modem.

Re: Remote Console

It appears that the modem on K570 might have originally been intended to be used by HP support only, as the instructions for configuring the modem are in the K-Class Service Manual:

http://ftp.parisc-linux.org/docs/platforms/A2375-90004.pdf

The modem configuration is described starting from page 2-14. The basic dial-in configuration for HP-UX is described in page 2-20. See also "Enabling or Disabling Remote Access Hardware" on page 2-22.

Note that the service manual also contains some instructions for HP 3000 series (= the same hardware, but MPE/iX OS). Ignore those instructions.

In general, www.openpa.net is a good place to find information about older HP-UX servers that are no longer actively supported by HP.

Re: Remote Console

Hi all

I try to do this but it is somewhat confusing, I would not be what is the MAC_address.

This is due to make as connect the console directaa my computer?

route add 192.0.0.192 client_IP_address
ping 192.0.0.192
arp -s 192.0.0.192 MAC_address ( only necessary if there is no response is from the "ping" command )
After you have access to the device you will be guided through the initial set-up procedure with online help, where you can then select the IP address of your choice.

I do not know that IP has the console, I need to reconfigure or know that IP has been assigned in order to gain access.

Re: Remote Console

The WEB Console box has a default, or built-in address of 192.0.0.192 which must be changed. You need to know what address is available to use for this box on your network as well as a subnet mask and router or gateway address. Ask your network administrator about this information.
