SWC hangs up when trying to connect to console.

Hi,

HP-UX 11.11 L3000 SWC GSP rev B.

We configured two SWC's today.
One works fine and the other one doesn't.
The problem is that I can not get the console login prompt to come up.

After I login to the Service Processor I type
in control ^Ecf and it displays the message:
[bumped user - ]
but it hangs up at that point. I can type in a
control ^b to access the GSP but when I logout
of the GSP I still do not get the console
login.

10 points to any good answer.
TIA, Gino

Re: SWC hangs up when trying to connect to console.

I can offer you 2 things.

First I would make sure you have the latest revision. Also, I would check the arp -s to see what it shows.

One problem may be that you need to assign a 2nd DIFFERENT IP address to the 2nd SWC... I think you may have them both the same, set to the default IP, from this post: http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?admit=716493758+1073574986084+28353475&threadId=226519

I have found several links to SWC problems with console access. A few seem similar to yours...

Re: SWC hangs up when trying to connect to console.

Hi,

Todd:
The revision should be the same and the latest as the other SWC/server.

The second SWC does have a different ip address then the first one, I checked using
the GSP LS command.

I'll check the other related links that you
gave.

Gino,

Try these steps to see if it resolves...I'm still researching to find somehting else for you...

Re: SWC hangs up when trying to connect to console.

Gino,

Also check the rs-232 cable, make sure it is secure,,,,if you login again and it still not giving you the prompt zoom out and select file-reset terminal and see if that does it.

Re: SWC hangs up when trying to connect to console.

Hi,

I figured out what was wrong. I noticed on the server itself that there was a root Unix login that had console as it's tty device.
I stopped that process and then I could successfully login through the SWC.

Thank you for your help!

Re: SWC hangs up when trying to connect to console.

Im just wondering outloud....

Shouldnt you be able to login to the console and STILL be able to login thru the GSP? I would think so...

It should bump them to spymode...

I think you may still have a very small problem even though you can reach it via the SWC now. I would ask your local HPUX tech about this.

Also, were both your SWC connected to the same host? You should be able to connect to the console with both where one is in spy mode while the other one has control..

Im sure I had a situation where I had the console logged in AND a GSP access was logged in as well...thru the workstation.
