Serial Ports on RP7410
i.e. modem port etc?
Are new drivers required? Will the terminal have a /dev device file? How are these created?
Thanks,
Jason

Re: Serial Ports on RP7410
Maybe this will help a little
From the hp configuration guide...
The N4000 integrated service processor provides 4 methods for console connections
1] Secure Web Console
via 10Base-T management port
Supports any browser as the console
2] LAN Console
via 10Base-T management port
Supports standard telnet connections
3] Local VT100 Terminal or VT100 emulator
via local RS-232 port (serial connection)
4] Remote VT100 Terminal or VT100 emulator
via remote RS-232 port (& external modem)
There is a general purpose RS-232 port as well
It's 9,600 baud & can't be used for a modem

Re: Serial Ports on RP7410
To add more serial devices you will need a MUX expansion card:
A6748A 001 (PCI 8 x Port Serial MUX card PCI)
J3830A RJ45 to DB25 Convertor "X" as many devices you want to attach up to a max of 8 x
Cheers

Re: Serial Ports on RP7410
To connect a printer to a serial port we had to acquire a MUX card.
So "general purpose" port should probably be renamed to something more accurate...
my 2 cents

Re: Serial Ports on RP7410
Thanks for the replies. James is along the right lines. My console serial port is fine. I'm looking to utilise the 'extra' ports that are on the back if possible.
If this is not possible then I guess a PCI serial card will be required (as suggested). I only need two extra ports though!
Thanks,
Jason
