Superdome GSP

Hi Guys

I'm having trouble with some GSP for the Superdome, I'm testing a few of them but not one of them have detected my partition, I assume that the configuration for the partition is stored on the flash disc thats on the GSP but i could be worng, If i'm right how do i configure the flash disc to see my partition so i can boot up from it ? ALso i dont want to use the orginal flash disc on these new GSP, How this does make sense to you guys

Re: Superdome GSP

Hi,

this is a task to be performed by authorized service personnel.

The partition information is stored on the GSP and every cell, so normally the new GSP will get this information from the cells.

I would recommend to call HP service.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Superdome GSP

I've put the flash card onto the new GSP and it have seem the partition and i've been able to boot it up, But i dont need an authorized service personnel to get it done, There should a way of getting this information to the flash card from the server itself

Re: Superdome GSP

It is important to follow the procedure and do the correct steps - trained people know the steps.
There is no service guide on docs.hp.com - there must be a reason for this.

Hope this helps!

Re: Superdome GSP

Hi,
What is it that you are exactly trying to achieve?
Normally you wouldn't move GSP/MP's between SuperDomes.
What model of SuperDome(s) do you have and what are the versions of firmware on your SuperDomes and GSP/MP's?
Are you using MP firmware instead of GSP firmware or vice versa?
Also, have you checked the battery save switch?

Re: Superdome GSP

You can ignore my last mail, Apparently one of the engineering placed the orginal GSP into the Superdome and not the one that needs to be tested,
What i'm trying to achieve Phill is to test some GSP for the superdome but these GSP doesnt detect the partition that already have created.

FW GSP = rev 7.30
FW PM = 7.16

MP firmware instead of GSP firmware or vice versa - Dont know
And i haev checked the battery save switch

Re: Superdome GSP

Hi,
Firstly, as a note, I see you are in the UK. It would be much better to log a Service Call as these types of problem are much easier to troubleshoot with "hands on" the machine, rather than in a forum.

I'm trying to build a picture of what you have.

The firmware revision that you have listed above: is this for the "old" GSP, or the "new" one that you are testing?

What sort of SuperDome do you have?
(from the Firmware details you gave above, I would summise that you have a Legacy machine)

What is the sysrev output for the rest of the machine?
Are you testing these GSP's on a Live Production Server?

Re: Superdome GSP

Hi Phill

I'm not testing these GSP on a live production server, Its been brought in to test parts, And as the main Hp engineering now have lefted it fallen down to me to test it,

Superdome (32-Way, Left Chassis) (A5201A)
Firmware:
PM- rev 7.16
CLU - rev 7.8
PDC - rev 36.7
PDH - rev 7.10
GSP - rev 7.30 - Old FW
PACI - rev 7.4

When testing the new GSP it does all the Vxworks boot process and i can get into all the commands but its just not detecting the genasis partition at all

Re: Superdome GSP

.............and now the FW version on the "new" MP ...?

Re: Superdome GSP

I am firstly trying to establish the basics, being that you are indeed using a GSP (Not an MP), which will be compatible from both a Firmware point of view and also a hardware point of view.

Depending on the results of the "basics", we can then look a little further into the issue.

We need to find out what the version type is of the GSP/MP card that you are trying to test.

Try doing a comparison of both of the GSP's that you have and note if the "FRU NAMES" are the same:

MP:CM> df

This command displays the FRU ID information for the selected FRU.

Do you want a specific FRU or a dump? ([S]/D) s

B - CPB - Cell power board.
C - CIO - Core IO (contains PACI).
D - DIMM
G - UGUY
H - SBCH
I - IOB
M - PRM - Processor module.
O - IOPB - IO back plane power board.
P - BPB - Main back plane power board.
R - LSB/RSB
S - SBC
T - PDH - PDH daughtercard.
W - CB - Cell board.
X - BPS
Select FRU :s

The outputs for the FRU NAME on your old & new will both hopefully be:-
SBC Board

And the one that you are trying to test will hopefully NOT be:-
SBC2 Board

Let us know.....
