Superdome Memory Error

We have a Superdome with 2 partitions. Part#1 has 6 cells and 48G mem. Part#2 has 2 cells and 16G mem. At boot-up to BCH the system gets a "MEM_CMAP_MIN_ZI_DEFAULTED" error. We can't seem to find any information on the error.

The full error is:
8257 PDC 0,4,0 *2 MEM_CMAP_MIN_ZI_DEFAULTED 07/07/2005 15:51:32
Log Entry 8257: 07/07/2005 15:51:32
Alert Level 2: Non-urgent alert or error; Keyword: MEM_CMAP_MIN_ZI_DEFAULTED
Memory controller 0 ; Status: 12
Logged by system firmware 16 during configuration subActivity 84

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Superdome Memory Error

Hi Frank,

Hope these can help you :

1. If the system can boot-up, you can check this file : /var/opt/resmon/log/event.log. Please check at the log about memory around the time when the log from BCH come (07/07/2005 15:51:32).

2. You can check the PIM information file on /var/tombstones/ts99 also if the system up, check on the memory information. Always remember to check also whether the timestamp is valid or not.

3. If the system cannot boot-up, check the system hardware thru GSP(MP), use CTRL+B (on/as the console) to login to GSP.

Please use the document below (docID : KBQA00000153) as reference :

Hope this can help you.

Re: Superdome Memory Error

We have found that if we delete partition 1 and bring the system back up that the problem goes away. If we add back P1 with only cell 4 it errors OR if we add back P1 with only cell 6 it errors. For some reason this unit does not like to be partitioned. We did not have the problem with 1 partition with all 8 cell boards.

Re: Superdome Memory Error

it seems to be something wrong in your complex profile, but it's really complex. Best idea I thing is to ask HP experts for assistance - open a call!
If you have a superdome server, you have a contract also, I guess.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Superdome Memory Error

Summary: Configuration error.
Description: PDC detected the case where the Minimum ZI value, as derived from the Complex Profile, was zero. PDC set the value to the default value and continued.
Probable mis-configuration in the Complex Profile A. Correct the configuration. Run the Parmanager tools and change the configuration of a Partition to delete a cell, then add the cell back before rebooting, then reboot.

I recommend calling HP backline support and be prepared to email them the error information.

Good Luck.
