Superdome vPars and hardware requirements?? :o(

Hello,

I hope there is someone who can offer support with my query. I have a HP 9000 with a single cell, 1 hard partition. I want to split the current resources (4CPU & 8GB RAM) into two vPar (each with 2CPU 4GB RAM). What I dont understand is...Do I need to purchase an extra DVD and Tape drive for the new vPar. I currently only have 1 for the whole server.

Kind of new to this technology so maybe getting a little confused. There is lots to take in

Many Thanks

cmitty

Hi,
and welcome to the forums!
I don't have access to a vpar-ed machine, but from looking into it, I suspect you can either get dual scsi-cabled drives, re-assign resources, after they have been released by the holding vpar or use access as if the tape was on another server.

Please see earlier thread:

Somewhat confusing; As I read it vpar is ok to share, but npar is not.
Best way may be to try it out.

well you do not HAVE to buy extra devices, but you will need the relevant I/O card configured into the Vpar if you wish to switch the device cables between servers.

Hi,

You need
1 OS disk for each VPAR (on a dedicated IO slot, you cann't share multiple IO card between two VPAR)
1 LAN card for each VPAR (on a dedicated IO slot)

An extra DVD is not necessary, you can install the OS through the LAN.
A tape drive is also not required if you don't need this
