System unable to reboot

Hi all,

When i rebooted rp 7420 server it's not comming up. Even it's not responding with power switch. I tried to turn off and turn on but, there is no use to doing it.

i used the following command to restart it.

reboot -r -y 0

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Regards
Raj

Re: System unable to reboot

Are you getting anything on the console? Any errors in the GSP? We really need more information.

A 7420 is new enough that you should at least have warranty support. I'd call HP and get their help.

Re: System unable to reboot

Is this a singel partition box or multiple? If there is another cell, is that one up?

As Patrick asked, we need some console info -- can you go on the GSP and check the VFP.

Is the PCI cage on the back of the server lit up, ie are the LEDs illuminated?

Tony.
You CAN do that on HP

Re: System unable to reboot

can you get the ISP prompt? Try to boot into single user mode or maintenance mode, perhaps something wrong with the kernel or boot disk.

Re: System unable to reboot

From MP> "ps" will show the power suply statuses. Check you have enough power supply and power source connected.

By default the auto boot is disabled in 74 series (true for 7410, 7420 I am not sure), check that also. Did you see the power LED flash (green)? Post more information.

The MP will function even with power switch off! Just power cord plugged is enough to MP to function.

If no response at all, remove power cord and plug again.

Re: System unable to reboot

Worth checking the power status of all the components from the console.

If you do remove the power cables, leave them disconnected for 30-40 seconds to allow everyting to discharge before reconnecting.

Tony.
