To access rp 3440 from console port.
I have HP-UX server rp3440 with out VGA interface.
I want to restart this server in single user mode.
Can somebody tell me how to access the boot prompt thru console port.
Note : I do not have the dump terminal.
Can it be possible thru hyper terminal ?
Please suggest the solution.
Thanks in advance.
Regards
Varian

Re: To access rp 3440 from console port.
Is your GSP webconsole configured?
If yes, then open a telnet session to the IP address of your GSP

Re: To access rp 3440 from console port.
You can telnet the GSP IP if configured already. To configure the GSP IP you still need a serial access for first time.

Re: To access rp 3440 from console port.
Connect a GSP combactable serial port to teh GSP and connect the other end to the PC or a laptop, use hyperterminal and access the console through it. Or else u can connect a cross cable to gsp and do a telnet to the GSP IP, as u are not aware of GSP I/P 1st option will be fine.
Boot up server, go to the CO menu. Interrupt PDC and give bo pri, then interact with ISL. At ISL prompt give hpux -is
The system will be booted from the primary path in single user mode.
By the way, Why do u need to bring the system in single user mode.
If the server is already booted u can issue init 1 to bring down the system in single user mode.

Sunil

Re: To access rp 3440 from console port.
As u say, there are three cables, remote, console and ups, u have to use console, connect it with Serial cable, on com port of ur PC/Laptop, open hyperterm, select connect using com? port, on next screen set default, if will get some MP Login or GSP Login, or Console Login, If u Get MP/GSP Login then use Admin/Admin (Default)or as ur MP Password, at MP> type CO to get console login, then reboot the server, interrupt boot sequence, u will get promt like this,
main menu>
type boot pri isl,
yes,
isl> hpux -is, the server will go in single user mode,
cheers,

Re: To access rp 3440 from console port.
Thanks for the mail,
But the setting you have provided is not working.
Can I use UTP port with other end as 9 pin D-Connector to PC.
Thanks & Regards
