Transceiver for 712/60 add on LAN card

I have an add-on LAN card for a 712/60 workstation has a AUI interface with 3 rows of pins instead of usual 2 rows of pins. Does it requires some kind of special transeciver from HP only?

Re: Transceiver for 712/60 add on LAN card

I have 715, 735 and 755 workstations that all use a HP transceiver P/N 28685B. This transceiver has a 15 pin male "D" connector (2 rows of pins)that uses a slide lock and a 8 pin RJ45 female socket.
Hope this helps!

hmm, this does not really sound like a LAN card. Could be a bit more specific and supply the product number, or part number, of the card?
Thius would help to identify the correct unit for you.

Re: Transceiver for 712/60 add on LAN card

I am sure it is a lancard, because lanscan shows 2 NIC after I put the card in. One thing interesting is on top of the 26 bin connecter is a label said "RS-232" and on the bottom it said "LAN-AUI". Is it some kind of serial - LAN combo card? The P/N is 40110273U3

Re: Transceiver for 712/60 add on LAN card

Eric,

your interface is a combination of LAN and RS232. You need a Y-cable that splits the lines up in a 9-pin RS232 port and a usual AUI port, where you are able to hook up your tranceiver.
The part no. for this cable is A2263-62045
There is no good troubleshooting with bad data

Re: Transceiver for 712/60 add on LAN card

Does the cable, A2263-62045, work with both the HP A4014A *and* A4217A? I can't find any details on A4217A, but presumeably you need to break out a similiar connector for 15pin female d-sub AUI and RS-232 (9 pin male? female?)

With boxes coming up on 10 years old, I'd rather break out a bread board and wire the interface myself.

Thx,

The answer is yes, A2263-62045 works with the AUI/serial card. A lot of information can be obtained from: http://partsurfer.hp.com
Just put in the cable part number and you'll see that it is used with A4217A.
