OK, I'll ask the dumb question...

Why would you want to do that?

Due to security concerns, we need to be able to disable the ports.

Unless things have changed, I **believe** HP-UX has only rudimentary drivers for USB ports and that only keyboard and mouse are supported.

I don't think you have much reason to worry with USB on HP-UX.

At least for 11.11 the OS supports only keyboard and mouse for USB. 11.23 supports USB CD/DVD drives more or less.

For access to the data a user needs at least a password ...

Regarding security: if an unauthorized person has physical access to the server - this is a real concern!
Consider of pulled out disks, plugs, CPUs ...

Think about secured data centers/rooms!

Hope this helps!

Yes I thought that would be the answer. You're security people are thinking about PC workstations! If someone had got in the machine room and has physical access to your server the its already too late, your security is already compromised.

Of course in many cases security people don't let these kind of common sense issues get in the way of their security policies.

I have seen some sites where USB ports are plugged up with Superglue (It was Proliants rather than HP9000s I'm NOT recommending you do this!) for exactly this reason - of course anyone could still pull out a disk or access the system with a x-over cable or via a serial port.

And there is no way to diable the USB port from the OS or the MP.
