no.

no.

nope - no point in having docs for something it can't do - the USB is for Keyboard/Mouse only.

Sorry.

Duncan,

I cant find any information. According to your answer this seems logical.
Are you really conviced this cannot be done?
I think you are right but the software supplier tels my custumer it can be done.

(I am the systems engineer for the costumers systems on wich the software supplier places it software)

Re: USB port on an RP3440 RP4440

Hi,

I am also 100 % sure you cannot use it.
The hardware is exactly the same as a rx2600 and rx4640. If you install W2K3 an this servers then you can use this ports.

I you need a VGA and keyboard on your unix you need to install adapter A6150B

Re: USB port on an RP3440 RP4440

Thank you all, Im going to convince my costumer an supplier now

Re: USB port on an RP3440 RP4440

Since the PA-RISC and Itanium systems using the same chassis, mostly there are connectors for a VGA console (graphix, keyboard, mouse). But only the itanium systems supporting this console - it's not available for pa-risc (at least the graphics).
The ability to boot from a usb device depends on the firmware. There is no pa-risc system I know that is able to boot from usb, but some itanium systems can do it.

e.g. I have found these lines in the patch description for the rx2600 efi firmware:

"New USB EFI driver with support for:
certain USB mass storage devices, etc."

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: USB port on an RP3440 RP4440

Torsten is correct, there were never any drivers written for the USB ports for PA-RISC servers. I went roundy-roundy with support on this about 6 months ago. I wanted to be able to dump ts99 files and import firmware updates, but no go on this version of the hardware. Don't expect it to ever appear, either, as there is no intention to ever write the drivers.

Good Luck - Tim
