Unable to build the 11.00 64 bit kernel on HP 9000 Rclass

I am trying to install 11.00 64bit OS on HP 9000 R class machine but it fails with error on eisa and eeprom while reading conf.c file. The error comes when it tries to rebuild the kernel.

On the same machine if i install the 11.00 with 32 bit kernel , it works fine.

I would like to know
1) why this is happenning.
2) can it be possible upgrade the kernel from 32 to 64 bit, if yes then how

Bhavesh

The Device drivers for EISA and EEPROM are not 64-bit capable. So you can't use them under 64-bit OS environment. They will work in HP-UX 11.00 32-bit environment as you have observed.

Hi Bhavesh,

If you don't need the EISA boards you can remove them & you'll be able to load 64-bit 11.0 on that system.

The EISA cards won't work in the 64bit environment. You may remove these cards from the server and install 64bit OS. If you want to keep the EISA cards, you have to stick with 32 bit OS.

Hi

Like others have mentioned with the EISA board you have to install 32bit OS.
