Upgrade firmware from version 3.1 to 3.2 for rp7420

Hi All,

I need your help to upgrade one of my rp7420 server's firmware from version 3.1 to 3.2. I have the instruction of upgrade from version 3.2 to 3.3 and to 4.0. In version 3.2 what I am finding it is a patch. That is why I am confused. On the other hand I did not find any instruction there to upgrade it. Can anybody please give me a guide line for it?

Best regards,
Rana

Re: Upgrade firmware from version 3.1 to 3.2 for rp7420

Shalom Rana,

For a time firmware was delivered as a PHSS type patch. They needed to be installed all by themselves and not as part of a patch depot.

A minority People consistently ignored this and wrecked their systems. This probably cost HP some money but for whatever reason they changed the method of firmware delivery and update.

So.

Install the patch that includes 3.2 and the follow the instructions that came with 3.3 if its required and then follow the instructions that came with 4.0.

Firmware is now delivered in a format that requires an ftp server to do the installation.

Each release comes with a readme file and if you follow the instructions precisely and I emphasize precisely you will have no trouble updating firmware.

Re: Upgrade firmware from version 3.1 to 3.2 for rp7420

Hi Steven,

Thanks for details. What I understood now, I will download and extract the patch "PF_CRAIMED0320.tar.gz" in to an windows server and then will follow the instruction given for updating to version 3.3 or 4.0. It is exactly same as updating to ver 3.3 or 4.0.

I do not need to install any patches during these update and all update (ver 3.2, 3.3, & 4.0) should be done by using MP. Am I right?

Re: Upgrade firmware from version 3.1 to 3.2 for rp7420

Hi Steven,
Please clear me about following - "Failure to update FPGAs with 48V power on, followed by updating System Firmware files with 48V power off may place your system in an unrecoverable state!". Does it mean I have to boot up the system or it means I only need to switch on the power cycle using mp>cm>pe>t>on ? After that when system will come to halt state without booting the system then I can proceed for next action.

Re: Upgrade firmware from version 3.1 to 3.2 for rp7420

Rana,

There should be a pdf file with the complete upgrade instructions inside the firmware tar.gz file. I will attach it just to be sure.

Before you upgrade the firmware you should upgrade the FPGA "SYSTEM PROGRAMMABLE HARDWARE" to the correct version.

FPGA
Core IO
Cell PDHC

Above is described in the PDF.

Best regards,
Robert-Jan

Ps,
Link to the 3.2 firmware.
