Upgrade from L1000 to L2000

Hi we are upgrading our server from L1000 (A5576B) to L2000. My machine has two 550Mhz cpu and Two GB RAM. I want to go from L1000 to L2000 Server so that I can have Four 550 Mhz CPU and Four GB RAM. Any idea how do we go about it. Also I need to know if there is Licence key required then how to get one.
Thanks

Re: Upgrade from L1000 to L2000

If you have the upgrade performed by HP they'll handle all keys and such. The system board will be replaced, probably the CPU's. The machine has at least 8 memory DIMM slots, so to get to 4 GB you'll need 512 MB DIMMs.

The HP software will not need to be re-loaded. The keys for these are done via customer ids/CD codewords.

Re: Upgrade from L1000 to L2000

steve, We have another server which is L2000. I open up both machine to see the difference between L1000 and L2000. Both the machine have same System Board which is A5191-60016. same CPU, same I/O backplane and so on. what makes these two server different???
If you know something about it please let me know

Re: Upgrade from L1000 to L2000

L2000 servers have a different backplane. They can handle more I/O cards and probably have a faster bus.

Re: Upgrade from L1000 to L2000

A5829A is the upgrade, but I don't think it's available, as the L2000 is obsolete.

A6147B opt. 001 will get you the rp5470 which can go up to 875MHz CPUs, but also supports the 550s. List $2465 remarketed, or $2900 new.

Replacing the Backplane is not a task for someone who wants to be sure of keeping their job.

BTW,
the L1000 to L2000 upgrade is a simple change. no board-swap is necessary, but it must be done by an HP CE.
What are the chances...

Re: Upgrade from L1000 to L2000

POints to be consideres

1) Processors, Memoryboard, IO board, System board will be replaced...except HDDS/DVD/CD etc.
2) Pls keep all IO cards in similar slots after upgradation
3) PATH of console may change. Pls check it also. IT depends on your GSP version
4) all path of io cards will get changed after replacement of IO cards. SO pls run IOSCAN script before upgradation . It will change your old hardware path to new path automatically
5) before this exercise pls export all your vgs so that it can be restored by vgimport. Pls remember to do vgimport in maintenance mode only.
6) At last it may happen that system will not boot at all in maintenance mode( hpux -lm). PLs boot just by giving huux at ISL , shutdown the system and again reboot in maintenance mode.
