Re: Upgrade from L1000 to L2000

You'll need to contact a vendor and order the L1000 to L2000 upgrade. The vendor will come out and swap all the necessary parts.

Re: Upgrade from L1000 to L2000

If you are trying to upgrade so you can add more of the old 360MHz or 440MHz CPUs, you might want to consider some alternatives.

Like, acquiring a 2-way RP2405, which uses 650MHz CPUs, and will provide lots more performance than the 2-way you have now. You can have a more up to date box, with reduced maintenance compared to the L1000, let alone the L2000.

HP also has some new 2U servers out, the RP3410 (1- or 2-way 800MHz or 1GHz). Don't know prices, they'll certainly be more than the RP2405, but... you might be able to get more out of a 1-way server than a whole L2000. A 1-way can't be all that much...

Consider all your options.

Re: Upgrade from L1000 to L2000

The only difference between an L1 and L2 is a switch setting which will enable the additional hardware. Unfortuanlly you need to purchase the upgrade license which HP no longer sells. I believe you will be forced to upgrade to an RP5470 which reguires all new components.

Are you looking to increse processor count or speed?

Re: Upgrade from L1000 to L2000

I think it was firmware to upgrade an L1000 to an L2000 rather than a switch. Given the new equipment and that you have to upgrade to the rp5470, you should also look at the rp4440-8 and the rp3440-4. The rp3410 will be faster than your L1000, but you might end up short on slots. The new dual function cards can help solve some of those issues however.
