Web console query

Hi,

I have 2 HP9000 servers running 11.11. I use the Web console very infrequently - usually only after the root password has expired as it did over Christmas. I am able to Web console on to one of ther servers with no problem but with the other one, I get as far as the black screen where the login should come up but it just hangs there. Pressing Enter or ctrl&c etc does nothing. I can telnet to the web console port on that server & logon successfully. Is there a way of restarting the service that handles the web console. It looks like it is hung.

Thanks,

Tim

Re: Web console query

Shalom Tim,

Frankly having experienced both, I think the network based console is better.

There is no service to be restarted. This is a hardware based solution.

I have some experience with the boxes and offer the following checklist:

1) Reboot the console. That sometimes helps. Think windows. Though its not.
2) Reconfigure the console. Powering it up with the power buttonpressed will allow you to reconfigure the system.

There are no firmware updates available for these troublesome little devices.

Re: Web console query

Shalom,

Please try the ideas in my first post and get back to me.

The console device could be malfunctioning meaning you'd have to contact HP hardware support.

The network configuration of the console is compatible with the rest of the network?

Re: Web console query

Hi Tim,

do we really talk about the small grey plastic boxes called secure web console?
SEP does.
What server model do you have?
(run "model" from the HP-UX prompt).

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Web console query

That's why I was confused. Mine is a card (like a network card) in the back of the server.

Thanks,

Re: Web console query

From the MP CM commands you can try to disable / enable the web interface ( this is assuming the issue is not as simple as the web has been disabled ).

If all else fails reboot the MP.

Re: Web console query

Tim, there are so many different servers all with different GSP/MP/ILO devices all with different commands.

Do you want to know all possible commands or do you just want to tell us your server model?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Web console query

Once you telnet and login the MP
Admin/ (your password), enter cm and then he for a list of commands. Remember all commands are executed at the CM prompt.

If you are having problems with the the configuration of the Secure Web Console, I believe it works best at 9600 baud.
