Re: What is GSP?

GSP=Guardian Service Processor

It's an interface on newer HP servers through which you can boot, reset the server, look at logs, etc.

What exactly is it that you check for on GSP?

Re: What is GSP?

Hi:

"GSP" is an acronym for "Guardian Service Processor". Here's one document describing it for the rp54xx series.

Re: What is GSP?

Guardian Service Processor

Very briefly, allows to to interact with some of the firmware, view logs, has it own security features, etc.

Checking every 1/2 hr? Why? If you have a stable system there is nothing to do in GSP.

If you are having troubles, the logs can be of some help but they can be cryptic to view.

Re: What is GSP?

your GSP card will allow you to boot your system, reset it, make configuration changes, you can also upgrade your firmware through your GSP card, etc. Your GSP card is also your interface to your system console...this card is installed in your system...it may have one or more lan ports and a 25pin connector with a 3-stem ocotupus cable attached to it (again depending on your hardware). On this cable is where you can attach your console to. Also you can configure a lan-console connection as well...that way you can be elsewhere and just telnet into your console.

I'm not sure why you have to check it every 2 hours though. If you are having issues with it, you may need to upgrade the firmware on the GSP card. Also note..there are hardware enablement patches for your GSP card.
When you are logged into the system console if you do a cntrl b, this key function will put you into your GSP card interface...from there you can type HE for HELP and see what configuration options are available to you.
NOTE: you may need to login first before you get the GSP> prompt.
hope this all helps.

Re: What is GSP?

GSP could be very interesting for errors see SL and so on or to check Power supply and fan with PS.

If You invoke ctrl+B, M/C will give you MP menu, from that you can select console, VFP, Command Menu, Console Logs, Chasis Logs Menus.
