Will L3000 memory work in an L1000?

We are replacing the 1gb memory modules with 2gb memory modules on an L3000 server. I would like to stick those 1gb DIMMs in an L1000 sandbox server.

The part numbers are "slightly" different, but I've seen HP play this game before where they price things differently for higher-end servers - even though the parts are identical.

Can anyone confirm whether this will work?

Thanks,
Tim

Post the part numbers involved please.

That site may help.

The bus design is different between the L1000 and L3000 servers. There may actually be design differences in the chips that make them incompatible.

I personally would be wary of experimentation.

In your shoes, if I had a hardware contract, I'd opoen a hardware call.

Thanks Steven. HP confirmed that I can indeed do this. The correct part# is a5798a and it is the same for all L class servers. I was confused by a 3rd party memory vendor that assigned different part numbers.

Tim,

Here is a great web page for HP hardware questions.
