Hi folks,
how problematic is it to add a rp8400 node (which can only 11i running) in a typically HP-UX 11.00 cluster (with rp7400 nodes). The diff h/w mix should not be the problem. Maybe the diff patch level between rp7400 and rp8400. The MC/SG version maybe should be the same revision and which one is the oldest version that is recommended on 11i? Are there possible lvm issues??
Thanks a lot.

Solution
Hello,
Certain versions of ServiceGuard allow the creation of a cluster on nodes
running a mixture of 11.00 and 11.11. Those versions are 11.09, 11.13 and
11.14. As always, it is not possible to create a cluster with different
versions of ServiceGuard.
Hope this helps,
Nico

Re: add rp8400 with 11i in an classic 11.00 MC/SG cluster
Hi,
as far as I know it is supported to have 11.0 and 11i machines in the same cluster, if you have at least MC/SG 11.09.
However, this is basically intended for a rolling upgrade of the nodes to 11i. Also I would not recommend this as a permanent solution because 11i uses vxfs layout version 4 (JFS 3.3) while 11.0 uses vxfs layout version 3 (JFS 3.1).
I don't think there is an easy way around this compatibility issue, since I am not aware of any options for newfs, mkfs, mount, and fsck to indicate an "older" vxfs filesystem layout.
Regards,
Bernhard
