boot problem

hello all,
i have one problem in booting one of my system. the server was working fine, then i removed 1 GB RAM in it for some other server and now have added 512 of RAM in it and now its unable to boot. i could get GSP but not console. let me know if you want any output from GSP..

You should check in the gsp, in the vfp, if you are passing the POST tests, because if its hardware related, you wont get passed that point, you can also check de chassis logs for errors.

What model are you working with ?

Don't know wich hardware you are working on, but in a general way, you must follow some rules when working with RAM.

For example, you have banks, numbered from 0 to N and followed by a letter : 0a, 0b, 0c, 0d then 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, etc ... If you insert a ram in bank 0a, you are supposed to also populate 0b, 0c and 0d with the same kind of RAM. You are also frequently supposed to place biggest RAM in first banks, lower in higher ones ...

Did you check this ? Have you read the hardware guide ?

hi,

is the memory installed on a memory carrier board, like the N4000's?

it looks like this is'nt seated correctly if it is, remove it and check the pins if it is. Also check the seating of the memory dimms aswell. also check the correct slots are been used

post a few more entries from the gsp error logs and also at wha point it stops at on the local console and output of the chassis logs if you can

sorry all..
i cudn,t throw any light as i was not available for two days..
well..i will tell you now..there i dont have much knowledge about the hardware but..there are slots divided into two parts..and i placed two RAMs in each section..and the model of the server is ..

well..these are the logs from GSP.
tell me what logs from SL (chassis code buffer)you need to know related to this..
