The console cable used to connect a console to the 9000 class servers, is it a regular DB9-male to DB25-male RS232 cable (or has some non-standard wiring) ?
thanks,
bd

Re: console (serial) cable
To connect a serial console to the core IO of most of the HP9000 systems, you need the cable with partnr 24542G. This is a DB9 female to DB-25 male cable. The pin layout is as follow :
CPU Peripheral
(9-pin) (25-pin)
----------------------
1 <----------- 4
2 <----------- 2 *
3 -----------> 3 *
4 -----+-----> 5
+-----> 6
5 <----------> 7 *
6 <--------+-> 20
8 <--------+
7 -----------> 8
only the pins identified with a * are required.
Hope this helps,
Nico

Re: console (serial) cable
Since I wasn't sure about the meaning of "+" I've tried to create a quick picture. Can you validate it ?
Also, what's the significance of the arrows ? Is it the direction of data tx ?
thanks,
bd

Re: console (serial) cable
straight-through (for modems)
cross-over (for terminals and printers)
This has been true for several decades. Your local PC shop has both cables -- and they are both "standard", just for different purposes. I personally like to carry a DB9-DB9 straight-through cable plus a crossover converter, often called a null-modem adapter. Add to that collection some M-M and F-F connectors and a DB9-DB25 adapter and now every connection possibility is handled.
In your case, get a DB9 to DB25 printer cable and you'll be set. Note that your PC shop probably has no clue as to what a console terminal might be.
