determine gsp firmware version w/o logging into gsp

I need to determine which firmware version is present in gsp without being logged into the gsp. I know you can reset gsp and the version will be shown - is there a way to do this from a root login.

Any other ideas would be welcome.

I am pretty sure that is impossible with out rebooting... I seem to remember that it is only viewable then...

Same with chassis logs and such.

Re: determine gsp firmware version w/o logging into gsp

Found a link that may help.. it is referring to upgrading the GSP... I pulled out the quote that is at the bottom of the page in the link...

Upgrading the GSP software and rebooting the GSP can be safely performed without affecting the operation of the server.

The version of GSP firmware is displayed at the top of the main help menu.

It appears that you can reboot without affecting the server... but I would check with HP first.

Hi Ross,

No. You cannot find the firmware version from the OS.

You will need to logon to the GSP and it will be the top line if you type "he".

Re: determine gsp firmware version w/o logging into gsp

Hi Ross,

Nope - not gonna happen.
You have to connect to a console port (serial or LAN) & ctrl-B into the GSP to get this.
No other way around it.

You *can* get the PDC version from the command line, however.

Re: determine gsp firmware version w/o logging into gsp

Actually, I just stumbled on this... If you login to GSP

1) then type HE
2) THEN type NOTEs for the notes section...

..... NOTEs : Release notes for this release of the GSP firmware

It will show your the current versions... hit once and you will see something like this...

These are mine:

CURRENT REVISIONS
-----------------
GSP 7.24
CLU 7.8
PM 7.16
PDHC 7.8, 7.6
PDI 7.4

Re: determine gsp firmware version w/o logging into gsp

No points here... Forgot to add this to my last post...

There is no way to view it from the normal console... only as described above.

Hi Ross,
try this document, which is dealing with the
GSP internal port (take care about security).
Along with 'expect' it should be possible
to get the needed information.
