early cpu selftest and mem_pdt_dup_entry

I added some 2 gig dimms and now my server won't boot. How do I clear pdt? I have rebooted several times and the system just doesn't boot up.

Re: early cpu selftest and mem_pdt_dup_entry

Hi,

You can clear PDT from BCH:

BCH>
SER (for the service menu)
PDT CLEAR

You perhaps want to tell us :
What type of server you have?
What is the existing memory configuration? Which memory slots you have installed the new 2GG DIMMS in?
The firmware versions of your server?

Regards,
Phil

Re: early cpu selftest and mem_pdt_dup_entry

I have an rp4440 and I can't even get to the BCH. It sits in Early CPU selftest and every so often it shows mem_pdt_dup_entry. Thx

Re: early cpu selftest and mem_pdt_dup_entry

See this doc for the memory config rules:

http://www.docs.hp.com/en/A9950-96010-en/A9950-96010/sgml/A9950-96010.pdf

page 51.

Have you got the memory loaded in the right order and in the correct slots etc?

Can you also post from the MP:

Re: early cpu selftest and mem_pdt_dup_entry

OK Thanks,

The new ones are in 0a,b,c,& d so:

do you have DIMMS installed in Rank 2?
Specifically slot 2B....these errors indicate SBE errors for slot 2B and the message "mem_pdt_dup_entry " is indicating that the machine is trying to add a duplicate SBE entry for one which already exists for this particular DIMM.

If you do have DIMMS in Rank 2, remove the power from the machine and remove the Dimms from Rank 2 - Making a Note of which Dimm was in slot 2B.

Then power up and try to boot it.

Let us know

Re: early cpu selftest and mem_pdt_dup_entry

Ed,
Also, the F/W is out of date slightly.
Once the mem/boot problems are (hopefully) solved, seeing as you have an "outage" for your memory upgrade it would be worth doing the Firmware too.
You can download the firmware here:

Re: early cpu selftest and mem_pdt_dup_entry

seems I lost my dimm order. If I happen to get 1 dimm to work, then can I clear pdt? or do I need a whole new dimm?

Re: early cpu selftest and mem_pdt_dup_entry

Hi,
Im guessing you put the new 4x 2GB dimms in 0abcd and moved the "old" existing memory up the ranks, Rank 1, 2 etc.
You might want to just reseat the dimms firstly in Rank 2 and check that theres no dust in the slots.
Try and boot it.
If that fails remove all off rank 2
- (the machine will complain if you have only 3 of the 4 dimms in the rank).
If the server comes up OK to BCH then clear your pdt.
You may well need to get a new 2GB dimm for the "suspect" one.
