getting to MP or GSP from HPUX

I can get to the MP and GSP either by serial or IP. Is there a way to get to the MP or GSP from HPUX booted in multiuser mode?

Console access while system is running in multiuser mode.

Hey;

If you have the IP set up on the GSP, telnet to that IP address. If you're on the console, you can hit -B.

I think that answers your question; not 100% sure, though...

Re: getting to MP or GSP from HPUX

Hi Alain,

If you mean getting to the MP/GSP directly from a session on the server itself, then the answer is no. You must access them directly via serial or lan connections on the MP/GSP itself.
The only thing you can do from a system session is a reset command.

That's what I thought. I need to get the IPs for all the MP/GSP. Sounds like I'll have to connect through serial directly on each and every server to get the info. Sounds like fun.

Hi Alain,

of course you can that.
You can get MP or GSP from console by typing CTRL+B or if you have configured Lan or Web console then by connecting to IP of console remotely too.

We hope that is what you are looking for....otherwise please post again if you have doubts.

Best regards,
Fabio

Re: getting to MP or GSP from HPUX

Hi Alain,

if you try to telnet the GSP from the server itself you perhaps end in a loop. This may happen, if you connect to the GSP, working on the console and reconnect to GSP. There is no reason for doing that.
Initiate a new session from your client to the GSP directly.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: getting to MP or GSP from HPUX

Yea - that's why we run terminal servers which are just Cisco switches with serial outputs.
We assign IPs to all it's ports & then can connect over the network to any console connection.
We also have private subnets for our important servers to get to the lan consoles on them.

Re: getting to MP or GSP from HPUX

You can't!

The only way is to connect a serial console and type "ls" (LAN Status).

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
