Re: how RAM is split up in differents slots
to check the quantity and size of the memory modules, you can break the boot process and enter BCH console. Then you enter Information menu and run Memory entry.
You will have full list of memory slots.
Another way is to use stm or xstm directly from HP-UX level.

Re: how RAM is split up in differents slots
I don't have the product docs here handy. But we have an L2000 here that I looked at knowning all the slots were filled. And that server had 16 dimms. I'm pretty sure the L3000 is the same.

Re: how RAM is split up in differents slots
L3000 (current name rp5470) can have one or two memory carriers, each having 8 memory slots. The memory carriers are connected to system board.

Re: how RAM is split up in differents slots
you best bet is a picture: run the xstm on each system. you must have even memory chips (DIMMs). for example: 1a and 1b.
you can not run with only 1a, this is my point!
so, keep things in a Pair (or even 2 count).
also, if you move things around, make certain, the DIMM size is the same for each balance: 1a and 1b. So, if you order: 512MB DIMMS (these actually come in a pair, of 2 of 256MB). think pairs, and the #slot must have the same sizes for the A and B side.
