hp9000 817s: Keyboard does not get recognized

Hi everybody,
right now I wanted to play with my old HP9000 817s, but unfortunately the keyboards seems not to get recognized. The system does not react no matter which button I push. AFAIR the system beeped quite every time when I pushed a button, back then when the system worked, but now there are no beeps. Actually I need to connect to this box via remote console using console cable, but I just can't get it to work. Now I've found out that the remote access is LOCKED! I saw this information in the status bar when the system gets powered on. I think this is the main reason why there is no connection. After googling for a while I found out I need to press CTRL+B at the beginning of the booting process and then I could unlock remote access there. But as I said at the beginning the keyboard seems to be defective or something?

Is there any trick to come around this or will I definitely have to purchase a used keyboard?

Kind regards

Is this the old style keyboard with a "reset" key?

Hi Dennis,
unfortunately I can't tell that. Actually I don't see any Reset key.

The product number of this keyboard is C1400A #ABD

I hope this helps.

Re: hp9000 817s: Keyboard does not get recognized

Is this such a very old F-class server?

I guess it has an old terminal too, so try to reset the terminal - power off the terminal, press and hold "d" key while powering on for some seconds and release the key.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: hp9000 817s: Keyboard does not get recognized

That's a hp 800 Series server and the terminal I'm working with is a hp ES 700/96.
I tried keeping D pressed and powering up the terminal, but it did not work.

Did you see a messages like "Load defaults y/n?)" on the screen? If not, press "d" longer.

Hope this helps!

Re: hp9000 817s: Keyboard does not get recognized

I tried that several minutes ago, but with no success. The keyboard seems to be disabled or something? When the machine's booting process is finished, I see the login screen, but no key works. Hope this helps.

Re: hp9000 817s: Keyboard does not get recognized

hi,

when you hold the d key down from powering on the terminal does the system beep. ths is the point it resets to defaults

Also in the function blocks across the screen check that the remote key has an asterix* in it. if not then hit F4 key to put one in the box.

you should then be able to use the keyboard.

does the user menu key in between the boxes change them when pressed?

Not on the upper left where a PC has ESC?

Re: hp9000 817s: Keyboard does not get recognized

Mr. Rutter, when I simply power on the terminal, the system beeps one time shortly after I press the power on button, and then it beeps again shortly, when the terminal screen is visible.
When I hold the d button and power on the terminal, I don't notice any difference.

Mr. Handly, that's a funny thing, because the key in the upper left is missing, but I can press it if it is needed. The neighbour button is Stop.
