hp9000 g30 boot problem
i was trying to install palinux.
the first problem:
"kernel panic: if you have a 64 bit system, choose a 64 bit" or something equal...
(i saw it one time, cause i got it just one time to boot from cd...)
ok, i wanted to get the palo bootloader to do this when this problem occurs:
the termial just stops displaying at:
"TEST 704A " some more informations, which IMO are not concerning in this problem.
what's this test for? what could went wrong?
i haven't found information of "post" codes, nor power on selftest hex codes for the hp9000 g30, nor anything containg this hex code in possible concerned documents.
regards, alex golks

Re: hp9000 g30 boot problem
www.parisc-linux.org
in the hardware database the g30 is listed!
another question, too:
what about the "pdc" and it's version?
can i update it?
the kernel messages me, that the pdc couldn't be initialised, version unsupported...

Re: hp9000 g30 boot problem
I am finding information on http://www.parisc-linux.org/ that states the g30 and linux is not supported.
http://lists.parisc-linux.org/pipermail/parisc-linux/2001-July/013010.html
http://www.pateam.org/list.html
There are several other links that state the same.

Re: hp9000 g30 boot problem
> "TEST 704A " some more informations,
As HP should have been able to tell you,
that's a memory error, on the memory
board in slot 4A.
(The memory board has 10 slots on it,
which should all be labelled)
(If you take out the SIMM, you must
take out the one in 4B, too)

It's in the "CE Handbook Series 9x7 Family and Model 8x7S Family", p/n A1707-90016.
However, it's difficult to obtain this
manual.
(yeah, a G30 is a member of the 8x7 family...thanks, marketing!)
Don't forget to assign points, please :)
