migrating from PA Workstation to PA server

I'm using HP workstations since years (running databases and C-programs, mostly).
GUI is less important, I use CDE from PC via eXceed.

Can anybody give me some ideas about how difficult it could be to switch from WS to a small server (prop. HPUX 11.11 as well) ?

Re: migrating from PA Workstation to PA server

One, make sure it's a cold install of 11.11 on the small server.

Two, determine what applications you need on the small server. And you will probably be going from 32bit to 64bit?

Three, power and cooling requirements are usually greater on a server versus a WS, but they aren't too bad.

Forth, exceed will work just fine.

As an aside note, you will also gain the ability to run Mirrordisk UX. Mirroring the disks is not available on the WS but very important, for obvious reasons, to keeping the system up and running. Depending on the model of server you purchase, you can also gain Hot Swapable disk's.
If it has wheels or a skirt, you can't afford it.
