missing serial number

I have found countless threads on how to find the server serial, but none about how to set it.

Here's the commands i have tried and they all come back empty. There is also an error in the system event log that i have included that states missing SSN#. Is this something that I will be able to fix myself or will I have to call HP? I know what the SSN is because it is on the tag on the front of the rp3410. I also know that these commands should work on this box because they work on our rp3440 that is basically configured the same.

TIA!

#echo "sel path system\ninfolog\nexit"|cstm|grep "System Serial Number"

#getconf MACHINE_SERIAL

Yes, may require HP Engineer Onsite do some HP Internal Commands :)

Re: missing serial number

the serial number can only be input by HP engineer. did you recently have the server replaced with some hardware?

Re: missing serial number

This may happen if you exchange the board, but the new board is not factory new.

The system now see the old and another serial number, considered to be a problem.

Call HP support, they can help you.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: missing serial number

hi,

its likely only HP can set this for you.

unless its never been set? in which case if you reboot the server it should stop at PDC with error saying not set and you have one time to set it.

the server will not boot up fully.

if its just been set wrong or has got corrupt somehow then HP need to change it.

Re: missing serial number

Someone has replaced the system board but was not authorized to set the serial number. Since a lot of priced software is licensed to a serial number, only HP can correctly set this value.
