model Hp900 D279 - no ctrl-B for console ?

Hi,
We still have a model Hp900 D279
We would like to see the console
message (there is no console attached,
we use DSVIEW)

Anyway I tried ctrl-B but it does not respond. Is there no console menu for
this hardware ?

Where can I find documentation for this model.

There is no D279 9000 server, so I assume you mean the D270.

If it is a D270, I believe there is a dip switch on one of the i/o cards in the PCI expansion area that has to be set to service in order to activate the control B feature - I might be mistaken as it has been several years since I worked on one of these systems.

The D class servers have the console port on the back, as you are well aware. But to get to the CTRL-B functionality, the server had to have an IO card installed that suppplied it. This card was called an AP card, I forget what that stands for. It would have a small black switch on the bulkhead, one way was for SERVICE and the other NORMAL. Service mode would give you ctrl-b functions.

As mentiuoned, CTRL-B requires a AP (Access Port) card. Without this card, there is no CTRL-B capability on any of the D-class systems. The AP card goes into the slot labeled Access Port on card cage and has two serial connectors, one for direct access and the other for a modem. However, with an AP card, you still plug the console into the core I/O board marked Console. You'll see the hardware path is slightly different for the console if there is an AP card installed.
