network card on a L3000 server

Were are replacing the 10/1000 nic with a 10/1000 card. Can i just power down, swap them then change card type and speed in SAM or am i way off?Thanks.

What do you mean the same? one is 10/100 and one is 10/1000.

Yes. Only thing is auto/auto must be set for the gig.

You had 10/1000 listed for both cards in your initial post.

You very well may need to load drivers for the 10/100/1000 card before it will be usable. Check the documentation for the card.

If you tell us the model of card you are installing, someone can probably tell you the driver you will need.

hi jason,

you will need the newer driver for the newer card, depending upon part number and version of hpux. install this first.

then you have 2 choices

power down the server and replace it and then back up and change the card in sam, or command line and edit appropriate files

or, depending upon slot you could possibly replace it online with olar? save the reboot downtime if your confident. you'll have to stop and start the network deamons and kill the power to the slot.

The drivers for the HP Gigabit cards supported on HP-UX are different from the drivers for the HP-UX supported 10/100 cards. Depending on the OS you have installed, the gigabit drivers - iether, igelan, or gelan - will either be part of a base OS load or not. IIRC they are part of a base OS load for 11.11 and later, but you may need/want patches.

A more complete specification of your OS rev and the actual HP product numbers for the NICs involved would help greatly.

first, i think you have to confirm if the part in the L3000 server is the same as the one you are going to replace it. if it is the same, definitely you can just swap it after powering down the server. if it is different, you have to check if it is a supported card and it use the same driver. different driver may require you to install another driver and the driver patches. refer more info in this link :
