primary MP and standby MP

Hi,

For RP8400,RP7410,RP7420, if there are two partions configured in it, the system must have two MP card, one is primary MP card and the card is enabled, the other is standby card and is disabled, then, I have a question, how can I know which partition is connected to primary MP card and which partiton is connected to standy MP card ?

Thanks.

Re: primary MP and standby MP

The MP consists of 2 different parts - the core I/O portion and the MP.

The core I/O functionality is bound to the connected cell/partition and provides access to the core LAN and internal disks.

The MP part is "active" on the "primary" MP.
This MP controls the box - including all configured partitions.
The MP can connect to the console of each partition. Only the "primary" MP provides LAN and serial access.

Note (from the fw release notes for rp8420/rp7420 as an example):

"* MP master/slave failover is not supported"

Hope this helps!

Re: primary MP and standby MP

Only one MP is active as primary. The one for Cell0 controlls all cells.

This is why there are options for cell selection. i.e. CO command will ask for which cell 0/1 .

Re: primary MP and standby MP

And to make it a bit more complicated:

for the rp8xxx the primary MP is in the upper slot

for the rp7xxx the primary MP is in the lower slot

Hope this helps!
