problems loading framebuf driver into kernel

Hi all. I've got a D370, with an A4450A visualize card in the HSC slot...path 10/12. This path is not showing up in ioscan. I have tried to use the lsdev, insf and mknod commands to create a specialized device file, but it is not working. The instructions I found on the irtc site said I needed to use a major number of 174 and a raw device file. Again, I tried to follow these steps, but it is not allowing me to add this device.

Re: problems loading framebuf driver into kernel

Cheryl,

What other cards do you have in this system, and what version of HPUX are you running?

Re: problems loading framebuf driver into kernel

Hi Josh,

I've got a fibre card (A3591B) HSC/GSC connect, internal SCSI card (diff), 3 hot swappable hard disks, MUx (i don't know which type - as I have no need for this card). I'm running HPUX v11.11 (which I just installed last week).

I've also recently replaced the memory board as there was a DIMM slot missing. This system has one processor and I've got 1GB of RAM installed.

Hi Cheryl,

PDC firmware up to date on this D370?

Re: problems loading framebuf driver into kernel

I'm not sure what you mean by PDC firmware?

When I installed the O/S, all the appropriate patches, etc... were installed at the same time (if that helps any).

Re: problems loading framebuf driver into kernel

Does lsdev show that you have a 174 framebuf driver in the kernel? If you don't have the driver then there is no point in going on to making device files.

Re: problems loading framebuf driver into kernel

actually, no the framebuf is not there from an lsdev listing. That is strange.

what do you suggest i do with this vid card then? Since I can't get ioscan to actually see the device, I can't get sam to configure it (sam reports there are no graphics cards installed). I do have a converter cable from EVC to allow me to connect a pc type monitor up to this system. I've been hyperterm and telneting into the system to use it. I can continue to use these ways to work with this system, but.....

Re: problems loading framebuf driver into kernel

Cheryl,

Do you have all of the graphics drivers installed? graph3 is necessary to use a graphics card.

Just to make sure, you have the A4450A in the top 'turbo' HSC slot, correct?

Re: problems loading framebuf driver into kernel

can you see the 10/12 path at all? please attach the results of your ioscan, if possible.

Re: problems loading framebuf driver into kernel

Is the Fibre Card in the top HSC slot? if so, that's where the Graphics card needs to be.

I don't know if it will work in another slot.

Re: problems loading framebuf driver into kernel

Josh,

The graphics card is in the top slot. The fibre is in the slot directly below it. I made that mistake the first time around, but I figured out that error pretty quickly.
