red LED on disk in RP3440

Hi all,

i had a bad disk in my rp3440 which i replaced with some help from the users here. Please have a look at: http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1148106&admit=-682735245+1187701298096+28353475

Unfortunately i still have a red LED on the other disk which i didn't replace. I checked syslog, lvlnboot (as this ist a mirrored disk), ioscan and stm. This disk in slot 0 seems to be fine. Also the mirror is working as expected.

Only the red LED irritates me.

Can somebody tell me how to get rid of this red LED on the disk in slot 0 without a complete restart of the server (power down, unplug powersource, replug and restart)?

Kind regards

Stefan

Check

In my case a hardware intervention was necessary

Shalom Stefan,

So the red light irritates you? Good.

Here is how to fix it.

Log in via console.

Ctrl-b for GSP mode

SL (show logs)

Run throuh the errors until the red light goes off. There is often a short delay.

Re: red LED on disk in RP3440

Hi,
I am assuming that the RED LED is on the Disk and not on of the Server LED's - Clearing the logs on from the MP wont cure this.
I suspect that your disk is ok, but i suspect that you may need to call HP and arrange downtime on this server - sorry.
There can sometimes be an issue whereby there is a bad contact with some of the pins in the rear disk backplane connectors.
The repair would be a slight modification to the rails that the disks slide into, basically enlarging them.
.......that is if all other courses of action fail.

Re: red LED on disk in RP3440

Again, same answer as in your last thread:

Call HP support, they will provide you the solution. This maybe a problem with the 2-color LED.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: red LED on disk in RP3440

Just read the thread from Luk, could possibly be the same kind of thing, modifications to the middle and upper slot rails (even though your "red" disk is in the lower slot)......

Re: red LED on disk in RP3440

Hi and thanks to everybody for comments.

We don't have a support contract (not my idea), so i couldn't call HP easily. Also i thought i would not have the chance for a downtime during the next weeks. So i was hopeing for some kind of magical "turn off the red light" command.

Fortunately i had the chance to shut down the server recently. And lucky me, after unpluging and repluging to the power cord the LEDs of all disks are blinking in bright green after server startup.

Thanks to all

Regards
