I have a D310 server and was wondering about a replacement server. I have K580's, L2000, N4000, rp2470 and rp7410's. Would any of these serve the purpose of replacing the D310 and can it be done? Thx

Solution
Any of these can replace your D310 and the application code will be compatible. None of these support EISA cards so if you need to move EISA cards from your D-box then forget it. If for some reason, you must run HP-UX 10.20 then only the K-box can run it. Also, if you are connecting FWD/HVD SCSI external devices only the K-box is assurred to have HVD SCSI controllers. HVD SCSI is available but optional on the other boxes; for the others LVD SCSI is the standard.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: replacement for D310 with K, N or L class servers
The D310 used the 32-bit PA7100LC chip at either 75 or 100MHz. It had 4 HSC slots some of which also offered EISA connections as an alternative in the same physical slot.
The K-class started with PA-7200 (more advanced chip than the PA7100LC) at 100 or even 120 MHz CPUs. In 1996, HP offered the K-class with the 64-bit PA-8000 processor at higher clock rates, and even later the pa-8200 processor. The 64-bit processors required HP-UX 10.20 as a minimum OS level, but had no problem executing code from 10.20 or later on a D310.

Re: replacement for D310 with K, N or L class servers
Hi
you may also wish to look at the Ignite-UX s/w package free from HP. This will make the process of migrating your system much simpler than building a replacement server from scratch.
