rp 4440 - flashing RED on System LED

Hi,

We have 2 rp 4440 servers. On both servers the system LED is flashing RED. But the system is running without any problem so far.

Is it a concern? or h/w a flaw?
Is there any solution for that.

The firmware details.
MP FW : E.02.29
BMC FW : 02.37
System FW : 44.21

I also attach the logs in the file.
Pl. help me in resolving this issue. Thanks in advance

- Sundar

Re: rp 4440 - flashing RED on System LED

Hi Thanks everyone for all the responses.

Robert ..

I tried downloading PHSS_33088. It shows me the following error.

* Beginning Analysis Phase.
* Source: hpux:/scratch/FW_patches/PHSS_33088.depot
* Target: micqa1:/
* Target logfile: hpux:/var/adm/sw/swagent.log
* Reading source for product information.
* Reading source for file information.
NOTE: The device file for the primary boot disk as reported
by setboot(1M), , does not match the FIRST one listed
in the file /stand/bootconf, /dev/dsk/c4t0d1. PHSS_33088 will be
excluded from installation. Please correct the /stand/bootconf
file and then install PHSS_33088.
NOTE: The "checkinstall" script for "PHSS_33088.KERN-RUN" gave an
"exclude" return (exit code "3"). The script location was
"/var/tmp/BAAa15017/catalog/PHSS_33088/KERN-RUN/checkinstall".
NOTE: This software will be excluded from further processing.
* Executing preDSA command.

Please note that I am booting the system from a SAN path. And the /stand/bootconf file is correct.

Pl. send your suggestions.

Re: rp 4440 - flashing RED on System LED

As far as the logs are concerened, I guess those are of some sorts of Informatory/Notice, thus getting the flashing RED system LED without any trouble to server working. Upgrading the system firmware would resolve this problem.

It seems that the disk is not listed as the "FIRST" disk in your /stand/bootconf file. It has to be the first disk in that file to have successful patch installation. Not only this, there are other requirements as well given under "Special Installation Instruction". Refer them first.
Identify your current disk using ioscan and put it as the FIRST entry in bootconf. Similarly set the autoboot as well using
#setboot -b on before starting patch installation.

Re: rp 4440 - flashing RED on System LED

Hi

I tried in the following sequence.
i) ran ioscan -func disk. took the disk it shows as "boot disk". say /dev/dsk/c4t6d0.

ii) ran #lifcp /dev/rdsk/c4t6d0:AUTO /tmp/auto
iii) The /tmp/auto file showed lines
srvrflash & hpux
iv) I restored the boot path file using mkboot -a "hpux"

v) I also changed the /stand/bootconf file as shown by iscan.

vi) then i tried reinstalling the patch.

No sucess. The same error. But when i rebooted, the system was not able to boot. I tried booting from the previous h/w path.

This is the problem. Can you explore more on this Please?

Re: rp 4440 - flashing RED on System LED

I would advice you to call HP support, non of the docs in the itrc or docs.hp.com mention san support for THIS patch. Maybe there is an other upgrade path to follow.

Hope this helps,
Robert-Jan
