rp2405 with a bad fan

I have an rp2405 that will not boot. The error indicates a bad fan. I'm not sure which fan. Here is the error listing from the console:

SYSTEM ALERT
SYSTEM NAME: rp2405
DATE: 05/02/2005 TIME: 10:07:51
ALERT LEVEL: 14 = Fatal power or environmental problem prevents operation

RESON FOR ALERT
SOURCE: 6 = platform
SOURCE DETAIL: 3 = cabinet fan SOURCE ID: FF
PROBLEM DETAIL: 6 = insufficient # of fans

LEDs: RUN ATTENTION FAULT REMOTE POWER
OFF OFF OFF OFF FLASH

0x0020000E663FF405F 00000000 00000000 тАУ type 0 = Data Field Unused
0x582008E663FF405F 00006904 020A0733 тАУ type 11 = Timestamp 05/02/2005 10:07:51
A: ack read of this entry тАУ X: Disable all future alert messages
Anything else skip redisplay the log entry
->Choice:Timeout!

So I'm guessing the FF in the SOURCE DETAIL is telling which fan is bad. I'm not sure which one.
There are 4 fans in the power supply/fan assembly. However, none of them will spin up. I do not know if that is related to one fan being out or there are actually more than one bad fans.
Any one have any ideas? I need to order a replacement part but do not want to do it by trail and terror.

Re: rp2405 with a bad fan

There may be more than one fan failed in the system.
The following are fan fail codes.

0x002008646300405F FAN0_FAIL
0x002008646301405F FAN1_FAIL
0x002008646302405F FAN2_FAIL
0x002008646303405F FAN3_FAIL
0x002008646304405F FAN4_FAIL

0x002008E663FF405F ShutDown_InsufficientFANs

Note: I think your posting is wrong because I see more than 16 digit hex code.

If your error code is 0x002008E663FF405F then it could be more than one fan failure. From GSP list all the error logs (SL & e)and post here, also your firmware version.

If you have HP support better to contact support.

Re: rp2405 with a bad fan

It's extremely unlikely that several fans failed at the same time. You likely have a bad power supply. If the fans are actually turning (yiou can feel the air coming out the back), then the pwoer supply sensor circuits are not working.

Re: rp2405 with a bad fan

Hi Dave,

It seems that is a known issue with rp24xx servers,The cpu fan will stop, and the server will hang, only option is to remove the power cord and restart the server,to illuminate this problem u have to inform yr HP support to fix the problem .

Re: rp2405 with a bad fan

Thanks to all of you for your help. As I suspected, it could be either a fan or power supply. Nothing definitive in the error messages though.
This system is not under maintenance so I can not get help from HP. The power supplies and fans are in a single assembly so at least I will not be trying a bunch of different parts.

Re: rp2405 with a bad fan

Do you use "ps" to check?

Re: rp2405 with a bad fan

mayg,
The system will no boot. Can not use ps without a running OS.
