rp2470 GSP error message pls help!!

Hi

I get the following error message on GSP of my rp2470 server.

Source:6=platform
Source Detail:3=Cabinet fan Source ID=0
Problem Detail:4=Fan failure
Caller Activity :4=monitor Status F (sometime FF)
caller sub activity :05=fan
Reporting entity type :2 power monitor
Reporting entity id: 00

It shows that one of the fan is failed.right?.How can i ensure which is the faulty fan?.When i opened the server and checked all the fans found running.Pls help

Please check the cables also, between the FAN and board.

Might be a intermittent problem also.like getting stuck !

Hi sysadm,

Command PS, executed from the GSP prompt, can help you. It shows the power supply and fan status.

Sometimes, even when you see the fans are phisically running, one can be in a degradated speed state.

I'd recommend you to open a call to HP support, in the past there was a issue with fan behaviour in rp2470 servers.

Hi,

As per the chassis log , FAN0 is failed.
The fan is located right on the top of the CPU0.
Eventhough it is runnig, it doesn't mean it's OK. There is test sequence in the system , which test each fan for required speeds and these fans are provides feedback about their status. If there is problem with fan on account of speed, it will reported as error.

I would replace the fan. If you have support contract with HP , place a h/w call and get it replaced soon as this is a CPU fan.

Refer the following document which gives chassis code description for fan faults and a picture showing the fans locations to confirm.

And also sameers document will guide you, but be prepared to ahve to down the system and repalce the processor, as the fan is part of this assembly

Hi,

Check the status of the FAN in gsp thru the PS command.

if everything seems to be ok, Then there might be an intermittent problem, check for any loose connecions.

Hi Sameer,

document showing that fan with source ID=0 is CPU fan.It is not under a contract with hp and it is out of warranty too.I need to order the cpu fan and replace it.

by the way,anybody have the part number for cpu fan of rp 2470 server?.how can i get it?

hi,

The fan is not orderable on its own, it comes attached to heatsink which is attached to the processor.

you need to obtain a new processor to replace the fan.

A6891A 650mhz
A6892A 750mhz

depending upon the speed of yours.

Hi Andy,
Are you sure that cpu fan cannot be orderd seperately.the cost goes very high if i purchase processor.
any alternate solution??
