Our customer has an HP server rp3440 running HP-UX.
He is unable to access the MP through LAN ( IP address )interface and through serial interface.
We can not power OFF/ON the server.

Re: rp3440 MP not available
If the MP is hung, no need to power OFF/ON the server. You can reset the MP interface alone.
There will be a reset switch in the MP interface. Press that switch to reset it.

Re: rp3440 MP not available
can you login to server using telnet/ssh
and try to reset the MP as below
Example :-
How to reset GSP:
=================
atabkb07:home/mccauley $ stty +queryGSP < /dev/GSPdiag1
GSP needs to be reset.
atabkb07:home/mccauley $ stty +resetGSP < /dev/GSPdiag1
GSP reset succeeded.

SolutionConnect the serial cable to a laptop or pc and try reset the MP. You should be getting the reset message and password clear message as soon as you pressed the reset switch. Press the switch for few seconds and release it.
If you don't get any message on local console during reset operation, then it could be failed MP interface. Log case with HP to replace the MP interface.

stty +resetGSP will work only on GSP and old servers. it won't work on MP interfaces on new servers.

Re: rp3440 MP not available
There is no way to tell what the correct IP address might be. If you reset the MP port with the button, the LAN address is reset. Here is the hard way to configure the LAN console IP adfdress:
http://docs.hp.com/en/A7137-96007/ch01s06.html
The easy way is to use a PC with the correct cable. There are two 9pin serial cables and one will never work. If your cable is not identified, it is probably a straight through cable and won't work. You need a special cable called a null-modem, crossover or printer cable. This cable allows two computers to talk to each other. Use the correct cable, set Hyperterminal to 9600/8/N/1 and you should get an MP prompt.
