I am trying to decipher these specs for cpu for my 3440 server. Presently i have 2 -1ghz processors and I want to upgrade. However, the description is rather confusing to me.
I believe the max cpu is 4, but the way it reads is confusing near the bottom where it says 1, 2 or 4 for "Number of Cores".
My impression is that each core holds 2 cpus... is that correct? If so can it be upgraded to 16cpus?
=============================================
PA 8900 two core, 2 processor Capable Base System:
With one active PA-8900 1-GHz core and one inactive PA 8900 1 GHz core.
Includes system board and power supply. Memory, storage and I/O sold separately. Must select either rackmount option or pedestal server mounting kit. A9953A
NOTE: Second core cannot be accessed without ordering AB474A. Second core must be activated before adding a second two core PA 8900 processor.
Activization for second PA-8900 1-GHz core AB474A
Two core MHz/64-MB cache PA 8900 processor AB534A
Two core 1 GHz/64-MB cache PA 8900 processor AB535A
Number of Cores 1, 2 or 4
Number of Processors 1 or 2
=============================================
Two core 1 GHz Processor PA-8900 Cache Level 1
3 MB (1.5 per core)
Cache Level 2 64 MB (shared between cores)
Floating Point coprocessor included
============================================
Here is the link to the server specifications.

Solution
The rp3440 can have 1 or 2 CPU modules, each module is a dual core CPU.
So in summary you have 2 physical CPUs with 2 cores each = 4 cores.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: rp3440 max cpu question...
"Number of Cores 1, 2 or 4
Number of Processors 1 or 2 "
Reason for this: the smallest version of this server is single core (a dual core CPU with 1 core disabled).
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: rp3440 max cpu question...
Okay thanks for clearing up my tired head :)
For some reason I thought dual core meant it could have 4 cpus.
