rp4440 crash when connect lan to core I/O

Hi all,

I have two rp4440, both are having same problems, when I connect lan cable to the core I/O ports, the servers crash and creating a dump, but this happens intermitently. I already has the crash dump analyzed but nothing realy helpful.

Does anyone has experienced same problems?

Re: rp4440 crash when connect lan to core I/O

The panic is an isr.ior which confirms this is a hw panic. I can't tell much more from the cfg2html info, but have you checked firmware yet?

Also NIC patches for the driver?

Re: rp4440 crash when connect lan to core I/O

First thing I would do is to use a different cable.

Hope this helps!

Re: rp4440 crash when connect lan to core I/O

Hi all,

I've checked the f/w version:

[mp001560de113c] MP:CM> sysrev
SYSREV
Current firmware revisions

MP FW : E.03.15

BMC FW : 03.49

System FW : 45.11

I also has installed patches for the NIC, still experiencing the same.

It is the latest, for the cable I've tried with a different cable, even with a cross cable to my notebook.

My suspicion is this server using
HP AB352-60001 PCI/PCI-X 1000Base-T Dual-port Core I/O as a normal lan card, which I could not found on th support matrix, anyone has idea about this?

regards,
Sandy

Re: rp4440 crash when connect lan to core I/O

Hi Sandy,

AB352-60001 card is supported LAN card in your system. I guess there is conflict occurs (maybe support issue) when you connect cable at core ports.

You can try removing the A6825-60101 card from the system and put AB352-60001 in its place (slot2).

Refer following links
http://docs.hp.com/en/A9550-96001/A9950-96001_rp4410_rp4440_Maint.pdf

Although firmware doesn't seems to a issue here, but just want to mention here about latest PDC,BMC firmaware

Re: rp4440 crash when connect lan to core I/O

The A6825-60101 is the correct card for the Core I/O and shouldn't be replaced with a different card. I would suspect that the card may not be seated correctly, so when you press the LAN cable in, it causes a disconnection between the card and the PCI slot. Try to reseat the card and see if that fixes it.

Re: rp4440 crash when connect lan to core I/O

Sandy,

Have u installed the patch (PHNE_29947) just go thru the description of the patch,
there it says that it solvs the problem of system panic during card initialization.
There is superseded patch also available for this PHNE_31153.

Re: rp4440 crash when connect lan to core I/O

Hi Sandy..

As my experienced, Pull out the LAN Card and reinsert it to server.
In my case it was connect failure.
And other doubtful thing is miss SCSI cable connection.
rp4440 has two SCSI Port(A,B).
You have to connect SCSI Port A. To use Port B the system cause reboot or hang.

Have a nice day..

Re: rp4440 crash when connect lan to core I/O

I am not sure which LAN I/O card you called as the core I/O. If you suspect the LAN card in slot 2, I would suggest you will check the ioscan output first. it would be something like below.

lan 0 0/1/2/0 igelan CLAIMED INTERFACE HP A6825-60101
PCI 1000Base-T Adapter

To troubleshoot your problem, I would suggest you will switch the lan cables between the MP LAN port and slot 2 LAN card port. Or connect the LAN cable to the slot 2 LAN card port before you turn on the system power, then check to see if turn on the system power produces any problem.

As to your HPMC problem, you need to request a help to HP support center.

Re: rp4440 crash when connect lan to core I/O

It appears you have installed an AB352A LAN card in slot 3. This card is supported as the RX4640 core I/O├г LAN card and is not supported on RP4440.

lan 2 0/4/1/0 iether CLAIMED INTERFACE HP AB352-60001 PCI/PCI-X 1000Base-T Dual-port Core
lan 4 0/4/1/1 iether CLAIMED INTERFACE HP AB352-60001 PCI/PCI-X 1000Base-T Dual-port Core

See RP4440 accessories web below to get the list on the supported LAN cards.

http://www.hp.com/products1/servers/rackoptimized/rp4440/supplies.html

I wonder how you could get this card as an additional lan card for your RP4440 system? You should not be able to order this card individually. If you used this card for your LAN connection, it is the root cause of your problem, I think.
