rp4440 memory configuration

To all,

Just a quick question on the memory capacity of the rp4440. The website indicates that the rp4400 family supports the 16GB quad array module. 16 x 4quads equals 64 GB per carrier or 128 GB with 2 carriers. Does this quad family require a firmware upgrade before installing the 'quad of 16'. I have a rp4440 with 16 GB, single carrier, and I am looking at upgrade options.

Thanks in advance,

Re: rp4440 memory configuration

Chuck,

The rp4400 only takes 1 memory carrier, but there are two models:

A9738B â Supports from 4 to 16 DIMMs (1- to 64-GB)

A9739B â Supports from 4 to 32 DIMMs (1- to 128-GB)

So to go right up to 128GB you must have A9739B

Not sure about firmware, but you need the box down anyway to install the memory, so it makes sense to upgrade anyway - if you have a support contract HP should do that FOC.

Re: rp4440 memory configuration

No I don't think so.
Firmware must be capable of handling memory what it sepcification tells you about.

Re: rp4440 memory configuration

Duncan and Bharat,

We have 16 and I want to go to 64. I have heard rumors that when people put the 4 x 4gb quads in, they registered as 4 x 2gbs until a firmware upgrade. This is what I'm trying to confirm, one way or another. WE have 6 instances of ORACLE and Siebel running on the same server.

Re: rp4440 memory configuration

System firmware 44.21 should have several fixes for the memory configuration. So the best is to update the system firmware to 44.21 before adding more memories. Here is the link to the 11.11 system firmware patch for 44.21. Current firmware patch is PHSS_32654 (11.11)
