rp5470 CPU Question

Hi,

I have an rp5470 that has 4 650Mhz CPU"s in it. My question is if this can be upgraded with faster CPU's? If so what is the limit on this that the rp5470 will support CPU wise and/or are we stuck with these that are presently in our box?

Thanks for any info that someone can provide?

Re: rp5470 CPU Question

The spec book I have lists the rp5470 as having 870MHz PA8700 CPUs, so I would say you should be able to upgrade to that.

Re: rp5470 CPU Question

Shalom,

Yes you can upgrade, but mixing and matching is not permitted. ITs best that all 4 CPU's be the same speed.

You will probably need to do a firmware upgrade and its best to have an HP hardware tech do the actual upgrade.

Re: rp5470 CPU Question

KPS,

Yes, this the the fastest proc you can use on this box:

PA-RISC 8700 processors, 875MHz cpu with 2.25MB integrated cache
Part #: A6152A

Jaime.

Re: rp5470 CPU Question

Just be aware that you can't run HP-UX 11.0 on 875 MHz cpu's, you have to run at least HP-UX 11.11

So if you are running the old HP-UX 11.0 on your current server, you will end up having to reload the OS if you go to the 875 MHz cpu.

Re: rp5470 CPU Question

Or, you could upgrade to 750 MHz cpu's if you wanted to keep HP-UX 11.0

Re: rp5470 CPU Question

IN REALITY PRETTY MUCH ALL THE CPU'S ARE MADE THE SAME, THAT IS THE RELEVANCEY OF THE DIPSWITCHS. THESE SWITCHS DETERMINE AT WHICH SPEED YOU AND THE SERVER WANT THEM TO RUN AT. YOU CAN ALWAYS TRY ADJUSTING THE DIPSWITCH SETTINGS TO RUN AT EITHER 750MHZ OR 875MHZ.
THESE ARE THE SETTINGS:

550MHZ= 1,4,5,7,8 ON
650MHZ= 1,3,4,5,7 ON
750MHZ= 1,4,5,7 ON
875MHZ= 3,5,7 ON

TRY THIS AND IF IT IS UNSUCCESSFUL THEN YOU MAY HAVE PART OF THE 20% THAT MY ABOVE STATEMENT WON'T APPLY TO.
