rp8400, 2-cell-brds, 1-partition, why only 2 drives, not 4?

In my lab, I have an rp8400 with two cell boards, four hard-drives, and two DVD/CD-drives.

It was set up with two partitions.

This morning I re-created the genesis partition, added the second cell board to the partition, and booted to the genesis partition. Ioscan -fnC disk showed two drives and a DVD. I expected to see all the drives.

I went to the BCH menu and did a search. It dsplays the DVD and two drives.

Have I missed a step? Shouldn't the partition comprised of two cell boards see all four drives and both DVDs? Any recommendations?

Hi Ed,

Typically the drives are driven off the core I/O card. So 2 will be in nPar #1 & 2 in nPar #2.

Thanks for the note Jeff,
I'm not sure I understand.
The machine currently has 1 partition set up with 2 cells belonging to that partition.
Do you mean I will never see all four drives in one partition?
Thank you.

Re: rp8400, 2-cell-brds, 1-partition, why only 2 drives, not 4?

I suspect the disconnect is that it was initially set up w/2 partitions.
Do you see *2* DVD drives?
That would cement my suspicions.
ALL the internal drives are normally humg off core I/O cards.
Run up parmgr & look at the big picture.

Ed,
I think "sea all" will see them.

I hope this helps.

Thank you all for your responses.
I am closing this thread because the "situation" has changed.

A colleague suggested the second MP card might be bad.
I tried swapping the card locations to see if the suspect card would be inactive in the primary slot, and yes it was.
I swapped them back, and the system is still inactive---and the MP fault light is on.
Time to open another thread.
