rp8400; MP df command returns errors for specific FRUs

For as long as I can remember, the df command returns errors for specific FRUs.

S - System backplane
"The entity you have selected is backplane. ERROR: There has been an error getting FRU: RtnCodeI2CError"

G - Mngt Processor (Core I/O)
(whether I choose 0 or 1)
"The entity you have selected is Core I/O. ERROR: There has been an error getting FRU: RtnCodeI2CError. Error attempting to get FRU ID(s)."

P - PCI Backplane
"The entity you have selected is PCI Backplane. ERROR: There has been an error getting FRU: RtnCodeI2CError. Error attempting to get FRU ID(s)."

Same thing for Mass Storage Backplane and PCI Power module.

Yesterday I tried updating firmware [with PF_CKEYMAT0604] to see if wrong firmware could be the problem. sysrev now shows:

System backplane: GPM, FM, OSP= 1.002

PCI backplane: LPM=1.002 HS=1.000

Master Core IO: FPGA= 2.000 MP=4.022
Slave Core IO: FPGA= 2.000 MP=4.022

We have two cell boards. It is a training system, so the partitioning can change. I have it set up with 1 partition currently.

cell 0 and cell 1 both show:
LPM= 2.002 BOB=1.000 DRAIN=1.001 PDHC=2.004 PDC=17.009

I found the readme for the firmware update to be a bit complicated. I'm not sure if I missed anything. If so, perhaps you can advise what to update and which file to use.

Can anyone advise what I should try next? Thanks.

Hi,

Did you try doing PE on/off ?

I suggest you to do a CLU/MP reset ( by pressing the RESET switch in UGUY) and try again.

Also go thu the chassis error codes, it might give a hint.

You may also chek for the latest FW versions. MP update can be done without any issues ( dosent need reboot of the server ).

This problem has existed for a few months, so, yes we have tried PE off/on. We have never noticed any associated error logs. I just cleared the logs, then tried the df command. No error or activity log entries were made. I updated the firmware yesterday (as described above).

Hi Ed,

your FPGA/CIO firmware is not correct.
This should be 2.008.
Please refer to the manual and follow step by step!
Otherwise you may harm your server!

Hi,

It is good as you updated the firmware to the latest version.

It appears to be the problem with I2C bus on the system backplane. Check all connections inside the server and ensure they are intact.
If all connections are ok, then the I2C bus might be hung or not responding. It maybe a known issue with the system backplane board the server has, pn?

You might want to raise a h/w call to HP or contact HP ASP.
